Who can join?

You can join this study if you are in the first or second trimester of a healthy pregnancy. Participation will require that you visit our research site in middle Tennessee twice during the your third trimester.

What's involved?

This study involves using an aromatherapy massage oil each morning from week 27 of your pregnancy until week 36. You will also take a total of 4 online surveys and provide two saliva samples.

Will I be paid?

Yes! Our team compensates for your time using the oil, taking the surveys, and providing saliva samples. You will receive a total of $200 if you finish the trial. We send $80 when you begin, $40 after midpoint checkin, and the final $80 after your birth. 

 

What are the steps?

Getting Started

To join the study, complete the form below. Our research team will send you an email with a survey for our team to learn more about your health status. If our team decides this study is a good fit, you will be sent a link to schedule an on-site visit at our research center in Franklin, TN. This visit will take 15-20 minutes. Our team will give you the instructions and supplies you need, and we will make sure all your questions are answered. 

Please note: Your on-site appointment must take place before you reach the third trimester. 

One

During the Study

While you are in the study, you'll use an aromatherapy massage oil each morning from week 27 until you reach week 36. This will take about 5 minutes each day.

Before starting the aromatherapy oil, you will spit into a tube and take a 10-15 minute online survey. The saliva sample must be returned to our office within a week. You will do the saliva sample and online survey again at week 36. 

There will also be a midpoint checkin survey that takes 1-2 minutes to complete.

Payment & Support

Our team is available to you 24/7 during the study. You can reach out at any time with questions. 

Payment is sent via Tango Card. in e-gift cards that can be used at over 100 popular American retailers or for a cash card. You will receive the first $80 within 1 week of delivering your first saliva sample. A $40 payment will be sent within a week after you complete a 1-2 minute midpoint survey online. The final payment of $80 will be sent within a week after you provide health information after your birth. Please note: Payments are only sent if all steps in the study have been completed.

The purpose of this study is to measure the effects of daily topical application of aromatherapy during the third trimester. The protocol for this trial was developed by clinical aromatherapists, and the study is conducted in partnership with the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapists. The protocol has been evaluated and approved by an independent third-party ethical review board which is accredited by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP). It is conducted in compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki, the Belmont Report, the regulations outlined in 45 CFR 46, and ICH GCP E6 (R2). The protocol is also registered at a World Health Organization (WHO) approved clinical trial registry.
